Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust and Carla Zampatti legacy grants nearly $300,000 lifeline for local charities

August 2021

More than 40 Brisbane charities in Brisbane will benefit from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust August grant round, which includes a $100,000 Carla Zampatti enduring legacy donation to local women’s charities.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said 14 women’s charities were among the 43 recipients that would benefit from the funds raised by the recent enormously successful Carla Zampatti Fashion Show and Luncheon at City Hall.

“The late Carla Zampatti was a fervent supporter of women and championing women’s causes and that’s why we are proud to deliver this one-off Carla Zampatti Enduring Legacy Grant, which supports 14 critical local charities supporting women," Cr Schrinner said.

"These charities are changing lives in our community; among the recipients is A Brave Life, which will use funding to deliver 250 baby bundles to teenage and young mothers over the next six months.

“Open Haven, a charity helping women regain control of their lives after domestic violence, will use the funding to support an additional 20 women and their children in the coming year.

"The Carla Zampatti Fashion Show and Luncheon beneficiary local charity The Forgotten Women will also receive a $50,000 boost, helping them tackle the fastest-growing homelessness demographic: women over 55."

Chair of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust Nina Schrinner said the ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were putting charities under pressure.

“We don’t know the true extent of the pandemic on grassroots charities yet, but what we do know is that the grants we provide go a long way towards helping them stay afloat in these tough times,” Mrs Schrinner said.

“On top of the Carla Zampatti Enduring Legacy Grant, the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust is delivering it's August grant round which will support 30 grassroots charities that are making a massive impact in our community.

“This year, we’ve received our biggest ever increase in applications for assistance, but we’ve also seen an increase in funding thanks to the generosity of the Brisbane community as well as our long-standing corporate investors, with a record of nearly $300,000 given out in grants.”
